Style of Influence Assessment

An SOI assessment evaluates specific abilities related to learning and teamwork. It helps you recognize your positive strengths and potential weaknesses. After answering a series of questions, you are given a four-digit number, each with a different meaning. Below are my results and a few takeaways.

Organizer, leader, planner, controller, coordinator, arranger. These are all nouns that I have been called before. From president of the prom committee to captain of the soccer team, I have always loved being in a position where I am the one making decisions and doing the behind the scenes work to get things done. I like to be the one to plan because I like to do things my way. I was not surprised when I saw 2 as my result because I have always been this way. Since college, I have been a little bit more laid back when it comes to trying to be in control of all situations and assignments, but this is still who I am at heart. I do recognize that to be a team player I cannot always do things the way I want or how I want to do it, so it is a goal of mine to listen better and value other people’s perspectives.

And yes, I am one of those people that does not really know what to say or how act when someone is crying. I do not consider myself a nurturing or sympathetic person unfortunately. I do believe that this is an area I struggle in because it is so important to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. I am more focused on how the problem can be resolved. I do care deeply about people, and especially the ones I love, but I can only say or do so much because they ultimately have to find peace within themselves. Many of my friends come to be for advice because I am honest and straight to the point. Emotions cause people to make rash decisions and I do believe that it is a strength of mine to actually set aside emotions and think rationally. I am also very reserved when it comes to feelings and expressing them both verbally and physically.

Observing these numbers and the ideas that are associated with them allowed me to recognize what areas of my life I can work on and how I can improve. This assessment also emphasized my strengths, some that I had not put into words before. I think that this was a great exercise to evaluate how I work in a team setting and how to also handle certain situations.
