Work as a Student

As a student, I have written many essays, taken many exams, worked on group projects, done homework, made presentations, taken quizzes, etc., but one thing that has been most consistent is that I have ALWAYS turned my assignments in on time. I think that growing up in a small private Christian school that was somewhat competitive gave me the mindset that not doing an assignment or turning it in late was not even an option. I have never been the type to work on assignments weeks/ days beforehand, but I have always gotten everything done and succeeded. Although this is not a major accomplishment, I believe it is so important because deadlines become more concrete as we move through life.

One project that I am proud of that really showed who I was, was my senior project in high school. I decided to get my personal training certification and teach boot camp classes at a local gym. The project itself was a great experience, but the dreaded ten-minute speech at the end of the year got my heart racing every time I thought about it. The speech was to be presented in front of friends, family, faculty, and a panel of judges (aka my worst nightmare.) However, after weeks of preparation and a “practice speech” in front of the junior and senior class, the speech went great, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to experience a high-pressure speech before college.

Looking back, this experience taught me that I can do ANYTHING with the right mindset and preparation. Before giving the speech, I visualized myself succeeding. Speaking clear with good posture and engaging my audience. This technique has gotten me far in college and I am glad I discovered it sooner rather than later.
