From Resolution > Reality
It is that time of year! Can i guess your New Years resolution? Eat healtier? Exercise more? Drink more water? Did you know that the number one New Years resolution is to Lose Weight/ Eat Healthier? Do you make a resolution and not achieve it and it's your resolution the next year? I know I do, but lets make this year different! Today I am going to give you tips on how to stay committed and dedicated to your New Years Resolutions, particularly exercising.
Exercise is defined as; to engage in physical activity to sustain or improve health and fitness. NOTICE: it does not say; go to the gym, lift weights and become a bikini model. If your goal is to exercise and get healthy, there are so many different ways to do so, so pick one that suits you!
There are 5 things you must do if you want results:
1. Set a Goal : If your goal is weight loss, select a number and time limit (for ex: 10 lbs in 1 month) *be realistic. If your goal is muscle gain, set a goal on how much weight you want to lift by the end of so many days, and if your goal is just to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle; set a goal for each day to exercise for a certain amount of time.
2. Change your Perspective : Do you see yourself as a Netflix binge watcher that is stressed and overwhelmed all the time or an athlete who gets stuff done? The way you see yourself is the way you are going to perform. Start telling yourself that you are a motivated goal achiever, hard working, and an exercise fanatic, not a couch potato!
3. Have an Accountabiliy Partner: Getting up and going to the gym can kind of be a struggle... it is always great to have someone that messages you and says "how was your workout today" so you are looking forward to telling them what you accomplished and how you are progressing.
4. Do not stay at Home : Going to a gym (when possible) and getting out of your house is key to exercising. When you are at home you will find so many things that you "need to do" like fold the laundry which will keep you from getting a good workout in. It is key to be in a different environment where you will not become distracted even if its going to the gym, grabbing a yoga mat, and watching a youtube video
5. Have fun! : Having fun working out it super important, if you are not having fun then you are going to dread every minute of it! Change things up and take a zumba class, a hard core boot camp, or a peaceful yoga class. Post about your workout and show your friends and family that you just conquered boot camp and now you feel great! I know for me, my favorite class is boot camp because there is a lot of people and it is really intense, but fun at the same time.
